        Where My Story Stands Today

A reflection from 'The Redemption Journey' by William “Bill” Doody

My story didn’t finish when the memoir did. Life keeps unfolding — and this is where it stands today.

I’ve shared how my life was rebuilt — from chaos and addiction to recovery, faith, family, and purpose. Everything that came before this point is about transformation: the slow, ordinary work of learning to live differently and the grace that made it possible.

So that brings us to today — and to the next steps. Why write all of this down now? Because after years of quietly serving locally, in recovery groups and other forums that help people face life’s hardest problems, I’ve started to feel something deeper stirring.

I believe God is calling me to speak to a wider audience. I’ve seen too much to stay silent — and I carry both the lived experience and the commercial experience to help turn complex social issues into practical solutions. That’s why I’m even considering politics as one possible way to bring real change into the systems that still fail so many.

Through prayer, I feel convicted that this may be the path God wants me to take — but I also know He doesn’t always reveal His plans all at once. So for now, I’m taking the next faithful step: pursuing what I believe He’s asking me to do, and trusting that in His time, the purpose behind it all will become clear.

What I believe, at a deep level, is that God has taken me through many seasons in life where I shouldn’t have survived. Many others have fallen — and yet, I’m still here. So I have to ask, why me? And the only answer that makes sense is that He has a purpose for me.

If He’s brought me through everything I’ve faced so that I can stand as hope and inspiration to others, then I don’t see that I have any other choice but to see it through — right to the end.

What I also know is that I want to be a voice for those who’ve lost hope — for the people who feel that life can’t change, that their mistakes have defined them, or that no one sees them anymore. Because I’ve been there.

If there’s one message I want my life to carry, it’s that change is always possible. No matter how far you’ve fallen or how lost you feel, there’s always a way back — and sometimes, the person who’s been through it just has to stand up and say so.
